Week 4 - Week 7

Hi there, it has been 4 weeks since I last blog. During the past four weeks, many things have happened in Hong Kong which led the city into chaos. Due to the strike and protest, the city that was once lively is now silent. A quick glimpse. Every weekend, there has been protest going on. Some protest events are less violent than others, but things had been getting out of hand where police and citizens are getting hurt. Protestors destroying and wrecking the MTR stations, stores, public utilities, blocking public roads, and vandalizing buildings. Because of these destructions, many stores are closed and afraid to open even if they are not affected. MTR stations were closed early at 6:00 PM, so it made it less convenient to go out. Even though there are busses, not many busses were operating due to road closure. Thus, I stayed at school for the majority of the time. Recently, Hong Kong is slowly returning to normal.

Xia Men Trip

During week 5, my friend and I travelled to Xiamen for three days and two nights. Xiamen is a beautiful port city in southeast China's Fujian province. The city is quite small, but it has a perfect mix of urban energy and laid-back vibes. We enjoyed the scenery and food over there.

Lantau Island

Spending most of the time at school and studying can get boring. So my friends and I took a breather and went to Lantau Island to see the big buddha and visit the Tai O' Fishing Village on the weekend.

The Big Buddha, also known as Tian Tan Buddha, is famed as the most iconic attraction of Lantau. It is the second-largest outdoor bronze seated Buddha. As we walked into the area of the statue, we first saw the six smaller bronze statues known as "The Offering of the Six Devas" surrounding the Buddha. They are posed by offering flowers, incense, lamp, ointment, fruit, and music to the Buddha to symbolize the Six Perfections of generosity, morality, patience, zeal, meditation, and wisdom, all of which are necessary for enlightenment.

Right after we visit the big buddha, we took the bus down to the Tai O' Fishing Village. This village consists of traditional stilt houses predominant of the old Southern Chinese fishing villages, one of the few remaining places where you can still see them in Hong Kong. Within the village, there is a market where you could buy live seafood, a vast array of dried seafood and vegetables, street foods, and souvenirs.
